This Will Not Be Televised

(Centrediscs 2008)

This Will Not Be Televised is the exciting debut recording from the young Quebec composer Nicole Lizée, who has become known for her works for large ensemble and solo turntablist, featuring scratch DJ techniques fully notated and integrated into a concert music setting. She moves among different musical idioms, integrating the sounds of jazz and popular music within a contemporary classical framework. Ms. Hotoda is one of the featured conductors on the disc leading the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in the title work.

Apparitions

(Signpost Records 2008)

Ms. Hotoda’s first solo piano recording, Apparitions, features previously unrecorded works of nine contemporary Asian composers: Vivian Fung, Noriko, Hisada, Vincent Ho, Toshio Hosokawa, Jun Kouda, Chan Ka Nin, Kotoka Suzuki, Yuji Takahashi, and Toru Takemitsu. Released in 2008 on Signpost Records, this uniquely contemplative disc is a thoughtful compellation of music that represents a wonderful cross-section of sounds, continually inviting the listener to revisit the recording with a fresh ear each and every time.

Symphony Sessions

(Signpost Records 2007)

In 2007, Ms. Hotoda collaborated with one of Canada’s most beloved singers, Steve Bell, on an album entitled, Symphony Sessions. The recording, released by Signpost Records, features more than a dozen of Mr. Bell’s celebrated songs arranged by Mike Janzen performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Ms. Hotoda.
